2 C dry pinto beans
1 Lb. Ham, cubed
1-quart water
1-quart tomato juice
1-quart chicken broth
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
3T chopped parsley
¼ C green pepper, chopped
4 T brown sugar
1 T chili powder
1 t salt
1 t crushed bay leaves
1 t oregano
½ t ground cumin
½ t crushed rosemary leaves
½ t sweet basil
½ t ground thyme
½ t ground marjoram
¼ t curry powder
4 whole cloves
1 C sherry

Thoroughly wash and soak beans overnight; drain. Add remaining ingredients except sherry. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, covered, until beans are tender. It will be at least 3 hours. Add sherry and heat to serving temperature. Soup freezes nicely.

Nice soup, but BEANO is recommended for
everyone’s enjoyment.
