1 pint whole milk
2 ounces sugar
2 egg yolks
1 egg
1 1/4 ounces cornstarch
2 ounces sugar
1 ounce butter
1/2 tablespoon vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
In a heavy saucepan dissolve the sugar in the milk and bring just to a boil.
While milk is heating whisk egg, yolk, cornstarch, and sugar together until perfectly smooth.
Temper the egg mixture by slowly beating in the hot milk in a thin stream.
Return to heat, stirring constantly until it reaches a boil.
Remove from the heat, add butter and vanilla. Stir until combined.
Strain into a clean shallow pan.
Seal with plastic wrap, placing the wrap directly on the surface.
Refrigerate immediately.
