Dough:
1/2 c butter
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c granulated sugar
1 egg
2 c flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda

Filling:
1/2 # pitted dates cut into fourths
1/3 c water
1/4 c sugar
1/4 c nut meats chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Place 10x14 cookie sheet in 400º oven for 10 minutes
Dough:
Cream butter with sugars, beat until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Toss on lightly floured board. Knead until smooth, roll 1/4 inch thick. Spread with date filling and roll like a jelly roll. Place in freezer overnight wrapped in waxed paper. Slice into1/4 inch slices and bake on well grease cookie sheet. Remove from pan immediately. Makes about 3 doz.

Filling:
Cook first 3 ingredients until thick, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add nuts. Cool before spreading on cookie dough.
