2 lb yellow or white onions, peeled and sliced
3/4 c butter
4 qt beef bouillon
2 qt water
1 c dry white wine
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt
Fresh ground black pepper to taste
8 oz chilled Gruene cheese grated
1/2 loaf French bread

Directions:
Directions:
Slice onions. Melt butter in a 4 qt Dutch oven. Slowly cook onions in butter until lightly browned, about 20 minutes. Add broth, water and wine to onions. Cover and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper stir. To serve soup place thin slice of bread at bottom of ovenproof bowls. Ladel soup into bowls and top with cheese place under broiler until cheese melts and serve.
