1/2 c. soft butter
1/2c. shortening
2/3 c. brown sugar (packed)
2 egg yolks
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 c. flour
2 egg whites (unbeaten)
1 c. finely chopped nuts
red jelly or jam

Directions:
Directions:
Beat butter, shortening, sugar, egg yolks, salt, and flavorings together until fluffy. Add sifted flour to mixture to moderate stiff dough. Using 1 T. dough for each cookie, roll dough between palms into a ball. Roll in unbeaten egg white, then in nuts. Place on ungreased baking sheet about an 1"apart. Using a thumb make a depression in center of each ball. Fill with jam or jelly.
Bake at 325º for approximately 20-25 minutes.
Remove to cooling rack.
Cool thoroughly before storing
