1 1/2 firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg, separated
3/4 cup sifted all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup butter
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter until light. Gradually beat in 1 cup of the sugar, yolk of egg and 1 tsp of the vanilla, beating to smooth batter. Add flour, baking powder and salt and stir into the creamed mixture, along with 1/2 cup of the chopped pecans. Spread in greased 7" cake pan. Beat egg white till stiff but not dry. Beat in rest of sugar and vanilla. Spread over batter. Sprinkle with remaining pecans. Bake at 325° for 35 - 40 minutes until top is lightly browned and mixture comes away from the sides.
