8 slices of white bread ( stale, firm)
3 tbsp soft butter
1/2 c raisins
3 eggs
2 egg yolks
3/4 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
3 cups scalded milk

Directions:
Directions:
Spread one side of bread slices with butter.

Arrange 4 slices, butter side up, in a greased shallow 2 qt baking dish.

Sprinkle with 1/2 of the raisins, Repeat bread and raisins layer.

In medium bowl beat together eggs, golks and 1/2 c sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Slowly beat in scalded milk.
Pour mixture over the bread layers, sprinkle top with remaining 1/4 c sugar.
Set dish in a larger shallow pan, add 1 inch of hot water to pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes, or until knife inserted into middle comes out clean.
