1 1/2 #ground sirloin beef
1 med. onion-chopped
2 cloves garlic-peeled and mashed
1 sm can tomato paste
1 lg can tomato sauce
sm pinch of red pepper flakes(optional)
salt and pepper to taste
pad pf butter for flavor
pinch of sugar to offset tomato acidity
Directions:
Directions:
Saute onion and garlic in oil until soft
add meat and brown
Stir in paste and sauce, salt and pepper, small pad of butter and a pinch of sugar.
Cook until all ingredients are mixed well
Add broth for consistency and thickness
Simmer for at least 1 hour


Stir often and discard garlic after sauce is fully cooked.

Serve over pasta of your choice or risotto, with plenty of parmesan cheese

Our mother grew up in Moline, Illinois where her mother and father immigrated from Northern Italy,Our grandfather was the huntsman for an Italian Lord, and the primary cook in the family. Our Nonni came to America several years later after our grandfather could afford to bring her and their 5 children . Our mother was one of 3 children born in America.
The old family house always smelled of spaghetti sauce , and wine the our grandfather made in the basement.

To this day, the smell of spaghetti sauce simmering in the kitchen brings back fond memories.
