1 c. margarine
1 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 egg
1 ½ tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla
2 ½ sifted flour
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together the ingredients. Divide dough into halves. Blend in ½ tsp. red food coloring into half the dough. Roll 1 tsp. of each color into strips approx. 4” long. Press together and twist to form a cane –bend down one end to complete. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 - 375° for about 9 minutes. Remove with spatula while warm. Optional: Sprinkle canes with mixture of ½ c. crushed peppermint and ½ sugar.

No Einspahr family Christmas was complete without candy cane cookies. They look so pretty and are delicious. Watch out -- they disappear quickly!
