1 1/2 cups buckwheat groats
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 tsp salt
3 c. boiling water
1 onion diced
3 tbsp. chicken fat or butter
226 g. bowties (2 7oz packages)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine groats, egg and salt in a large skillet. Stir constantly, on low heat, until all grains are dry and separate. add water, cover and cook on medium heat until all water is absorbed, 10 to 15 minutes. Brown onion in hot fat. Cook bowties according to package directions. Add onion and bow ties to the kasha.

Use chicken bouillon instead of water.
Boil kettle while doing onions
