How Johnny Cake Got Its Name

A long time ago people would make "journey cakes" before going on a long journey or a trip. The cakes would hold them over until they could get to another place where they could get refreshments or baked goods.

Eventually they came to be called Johnny Cakes, which are similar to American biscuits.
