21/2 c self rising flour
1 c molasses
1/2 sugar
1/2c shortening
1 egg
1 t cinnamon
1 t ginger
1/2 t cloves ( I often omit)
1 c of boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9" square pan. Into a large bowl, put all ingredients. With mixer, beat until well mixed, constantly scrapping bowl to incorporate good. Beat on medium with a mixer for 3 minutes. Pour into pan and bake for 55-60 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Cool. Makes one small cake.
