1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tarter

Sugar to dip

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream together sugars, shortening, and egg. Add vanilla. Mix together flour, salt, baking soda, and cream of tarter. Stir into creamed mixture.
Roll into walnut size balls. Place onto ungreased cookie sheet. Dip the bottom of a drinking glass in water then in sugar and then press cookie dough flat. Repeat for each cookie.
Bake until lightly browned on edges.
