1 1/2 cup flour plus 1 cup
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup sugar
1 3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
vegetable oil

Directions:
Directions:
Mix 1 1/2 cup flour, yeast, salt & sugar together. Heat milk and shortening together and add to dry ingredients. Beat 2 min. Add egg and 1/2 cup flour beat on high two minutes. Stir in enough flour to make soft dough. Knead lightly and let rise. Roll out and cut into 3" squares. Fry in oil until light brown. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or confectioners sugar.

This recipe is typically only made once a year, on Fat Tuesday the day before Ash Wednesday. On Fat Tuesday it is the tradition in Catholic families to eat a lot and indulge because the following day the Lenten season begins and fasting takes place.
