6 large egg yolks-room temp.
4 large egg whites
1/2 cup sugar
16. oz. mascarpone cheese
2 oz. Kahlua or Dark Rum
12-14 (4") ladyfingers
1 1/2 cups brewed espresso coffee (or 3/4 cup American coffee and 3/4 cup espresso)
Unsweetened cocoa powder for garnish

In large bowl whisk egg yolks,1/2 of sugar until pale and doubled in volume,about 3-5 minutes. Add Mascarpone cheese in 2-3 additions. Whisk well to combine. Add liquor and continue to whisk.

In clean bowl of mixer,whip egg whites and remaining sugar until soft peaks form. Fold whites into Mascarpone mixture in 2- 3 additions. In 6x9" casserole or plate with edge,spread 1/3 of mascarpone cheese mixture into an even layer. Soak each cookie in coffee and arrange tightly on top until cream is covered. Spoon remaining cream over cookies evenly.
Refrigerate 1 hour up to 2 days to set cream. Dust with cocoa powder before serving.

I am not sure this is the actual original recipe for the Tira Misu. I remember making it for a Christmas party at Christi's and somehow have a recollection of using a spring form pan. Anyhow this is the closest recipe I could find that is easy and sounds the same.
