"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Directions:
Sift flour, salt, soda, cream of tartar into mixing bowl. Add shortening and mix in with your fingers or a pastry blender. Add eggs, vanilla, and sugar beaten together.

Roll out on floured board and cut with cookie cutters. A delicious white cookie but not very easy to handle. A little like pie crust.

Personal Notes:
The recipe came from Hjordis about 40 years ago. She recommended using half butter and half lard. She might not write that today! (See Westinghouse for best cutouts.)
