4 1/2 c. Flour
1 c. Sugar
1 tsp. B. Soda
1 tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. Nutmeg
1 tsp Cloves
1 Egg
1 c. Hot Water
1 c. Shortening, Melted
1 c. Molasses
Optional: Raisins

Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, mix all of the dry ingredients together. Gradually add the hot water and the molasses. Add a beaten egg, and gradually mix in the melted shortening. Add raisins now if you plan to.

Drop by spoonful onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12 minutes in a preheated 350* F oven.
