1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 cup seedless raisins (optional)
2 tsp. soft butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 3/4 cups boiling water

Directions:

Heat oven to 350º F. Butter a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.

Sift flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg into a bowl.
Add 1/2 cup brown sugar, then stir in milk and raisins. Spoon dough into prepared casserole, dot with butter and sprinkle with the cut of brown sugar.

Pour boiling water over all, but do not stir. Put in the oven immediately. During bak,ing, batter will rise to the top and sauce will be on the bottom.

Bake about 45 minutes or until batter is well browned and set.

Addictive. Good warm, or cold as leftover after being refrigerated.

This dessert is so easy to make, and simple ingredients. Although we had it often when we were growing up, it is very sweet, and might do well with a healthy modified version.
