1 can tomato puree (the big one)
3 tbls catsup
3 tbls cider vinegar
2 tbls steak sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tbls each chopped onion, green pepper
2 tbls brown sugar
2 tbls dry mustard; salt and pepper to taste
2 pounds ground beef or turkey
1/2 cup red wine

Brown and drain meat - in a sauce pan. Combine all other ingredients and let cook about 15 minutes, stirring so it won't burn. Pour cooked sauce over meat and let simmer about 1/2 hour, again checking that it doesn't burn. Serve on any kind of roll you like.

You can play with the quantities and make a bunch for a crowd or just enough for two. It is a very popular party dish - we called it "Grandma's Sloppy Joe's"
