Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 cups light brown sugar
2/3 cup butter or Crisco
1/2 cup molasses
6 eggs
1 lb. dates
1 cup figs
2 lbs. raisins
2 boxes of citrus fruit
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup sour milk
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. allspice
1 cup nuts
4 3/4 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the baking soda with the sour milk to dissolve.

Take all the ingredients and mix in a large bowl. Bake in a slow oven 270-350 F. for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. When cool take a cheese cloth that you dip in wine and wrap each cake. Then wrap in tin foil and make sure all ends are sealed. As long as you keep it in the refrigerator it will keep indefinitely.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Mom, Virginia, always made fruit cake for the holidays. My dad, Walter or Butch, and my brother Butchie always made homemade wine so Mom would select one of the homemade wines to dip her cheesecloth into and wrap the fruit cake. My son, Chris is really the only one besides myself who likes to eat this fruitcake. Fruitcake seems to be one of those things that either you like it or you don't. When I make it though I sure do think of my mom, dad and brother and all their contributions to making it really tasty. The holidays are a great time to bring out some of the old recipes and introduce some new ones. This is definitely been around awhile.
