Directions:
Beat egg yolks, until thick and lemon colored; beat in salt, sugar and half & half. Cook in the top of a double boiler over hot water, stirring constantly for five minutes; cool. Add whiskey, sherry or rum and fold in crumbs and nuts. Fold in whipped cream. Spoon into dessert glasses, small custard cups or paper-lined muffin tins and freeze until firm. Top with chopped candied cherries, if desired.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This recipe was one that mom cut out of the paper in 1960. It is a very traditional Italian dessert that you don't see much anymore. It is creamy, refreshing and worth the time to make it. We use Trader Joe's almond biscotti instead of macaroons. They add a nutty crunch that compliments the creamy texture of the frozen custard.
