Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 lb. butter, softened
2 cups flour, sifted
3 tbsp. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. water
1/2 lb. pecans, ground
powdered sugar for coating

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the butter until it is the consistency of whipped cream. Gradually add the powdered sugar and flour. Add the ground pecans; mix well. Then add the vanilla and water. If needed, add additional water to make the dough mixture cling together. Shape the crumbly mixture into 1-inch balls and place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 400º oven until they are delicately golden brown. Remove from oven and while they are still hot, roll each cookie in powdered sugar. Coat each cookie well. If need be, you can roll them again when the cookies cool down a bit.

Personal Notes:
These were always a staple in mom's Christmas cookie box. There are many versions of recipes for the same type of cookie, but mom loved this one.
