Ingredients:
5 tbsp. butter
2 oz. unsweetened chocolate
2 eggs
1/4 cup sugar plus 2 tbsp.
1 1/2 tbsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup flour
dash of salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips
powdered sugar (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
In a microwave safe glass bowl, melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate in the microwave. Stir until smooth; set aside. In a medium size bowl, beat the eggs, sugar and vanilla until fluffy and pale yellow. Add the cooled chocolate mixture; blend well. Stir in the flour and salt; mix well. Stir in the chocolate chips. Spread the batter into a greased 8-inch square baking pan. Bake in a preheated 350º oven for about 30 minutes. Be careful not to overcook; the top should feel just barely firm. Cool and dust with powdered sugar (optional).

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This recipe was published in the local newspaper a few months after I moved to Oak Park. It was from the Silverland's Baking Company, which had just opened in Forest Park. Since then, they have grown into a huge mail order business. I believe this was their original brownie recipe. These brownies are very dense and chocolaty rich. I have also added nuts to the recipe on occasion.
