1 1/4 cups sugar
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cornstarch
4 tablespoons chocolate
1 cup nuts (optional)
1 cup raisins
1 1/2 cups applesauce
1/2 cup oil
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Put all ingredients in mixing bowl and blend. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake in a buttered, floured loaf pan or square pan as desired for 1 hour.

My sister, Claudia, asks for this cake every year for her birthday. I double the recipe and cook in a bundt or angel's food cake pan. Frost with almond flavored frosting.
