6 1/2 lb. Granny Smith apples
4 c. white sugar (adjust to taste)
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Set aside. Peal, core and chop apples. In a large crock pot, alternate layer of apples and layer of sugar mixture filling crock pot to the top. Add the lid. Cook on high 1 hour then reduce heat to low and cook 8 - 10 hours. During the last two hours, stir with wire whisk to smooth the apple butter to your desired results. Place apple butter in canning jars and proceed to hot water bath to seal.
