Shortcake base:
3 ozs butter
1 oz sugar
1 egg
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder

Caramel:
1 tin condensed milk
2 tablespoons golden syrup
cup sugar
4 tablespoons butter
4 egg yolks (save whites)
2 teaspoons vanilla essence

Directions:
Directions:
Press shortcake ingredients into oblong tin. Warm remaining ingredients in saucepan. Cool, then pour over shortcake base. Beat egg whites until stiff and add 4 tablespoons sugar. Spread over top.

Bake one hour at 200F (very slow oven).
