4 whole-wheat pitas (split)
½ cup onion (chopped)
2 garlic cloves (minced)
8 oz. tomato sauce
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. dried oregano
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
desired toppings

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat broiler.

Place pitas on a baking sheet; broil 3 minutes.

Mix onion, garlic, tomato sauce, salt and oregano.

Remove pitas from oven, and spread 2 tbsp. of the sauce on each pita.

Top evenly with cheese and desired toppings.

Broil 3 more minutes or until edges are lightly browned and cheese melts.

These are fast, easy appetizers and great for our household since we like different toppings on our pizza.

Try goat cheese and spinach together (omitting the mozzarella), or go for a standard topping like pepperoni.

The pita serves as a surprisingly hearty crust, so load them up.
