2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1 tsp. baking powder
4 eggs
2 c. cake flour
1/2 tsp. almond extract

Frosting:
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 egg whites
2 c. coconut
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. water
1 orange
2 T. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Oven - 350º.

(Beat by hand.)
Break eggs over sugar; beat 12 min. Heat milk to boiling, add extract and let stand. Sift flour once, then measure and sift again with baking powder.
Add to egg-sugar mixture. Add warm milk slowly; then beat for 3 min.
Bake in 2 layers at 350 for 25 min.

For Frosting:
Add water to sugar and boil until mixture spins a thread. Pour slowl over stiffly beaten egg whites and beat until thick enough to spread.
Add vanilla and spread on cooled cake but do not put layers together.
Mix coconut with orange pulp, juice, and grated rind and sweeten with 2 T. sugar. When frosting on cake has begun to set, but not hard, put this orange-coconut mixture into it and put layers together.
