oats - large flakes - 1/3 cup (or Rogers porridge oats with oat bran, wheat bran, flaxseed)
wheat germ - 2 tbsp
ground flaxseed - 1 tbsp (optional)
raisins - 2-3 tbsp
chopped walnuts - 2-3 tbps (if you don't have walnuts, try raw shelled pumpkin or sunflower seeds)
cane sugar - 1 tbsp
milk - 1/3 cup
(or if not using liquid milk - about 1/4 cup of water 1/4 cup powdered skim milk)
boiling water - 1/2 cup

Put oak, wheat germ, flax in bowl/large mug
Pour boiling water over, stir, let sit for 2 min
Add raisins, walnuts, sugar, milk (or powdered milk and water) and stir

Put oats, wheat germ, flax in microwavable bowl/large mug
Add enough cold water to cover and a bit more, stir
Cover loosely, microwave on high for 95 seconds
Add raisins, walnuts, sugar, milk (or powdered milk and water) and stir

It is "chewy" with nuts and raisins rather than traditional creamy
This is my standard instant breakfast before work and travel to get a quick start. Last year when I was on the Yukon River Quest Race (Whitehorse to Dawson, 740 km, 3 days) any time I felt hungry while paddling I took some premixed packages, put into a plastic jar with a lid, added water, shook it up, let it sit for a couple minutes and ate it cold. Had lots of steady energy for the race.
