1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. granulated sugar

Directions:
In bowl beat egg whites with vanilla and cram of tartar till soft peaks form. (peaks fold in soft curls) Do not over beat whites before adding sugar. Meringue will leak; top of pie filling will be moist and slippery. Slowly add sugar, beating till stiff peaks form and sugar dissolves. (peaks stand straight when beaters are removed). Spread meringue over hot filling. Seal to edges of pastry to prevent meringue from shrinking while baking. Bake in 350º oven 13-15 minutes or till meringue is golden.
