2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup red maraschino cherry juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup shortening
6 oz. drained and chopped red maraschino cherries
6 oz. drained and chopped green maraschino cherries
2 eggs
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup walnuts, chopped coarse

Cream sugars with shortening, add eggs. Combine flour and other dry ingredients; then add to sugar mixture. Stir in cherries and the 1/4 cup cherry juice and nuts. Bake in one 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan for 70 - 75 minutes.
