2 eggs
2 c sugar
1 c. Crisco shortening
1 c. milk
2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. cream of tartar

POWDERED SUGAR ICING:

1/4 tsp. vanilla
Milk
Food coloring (optional)
Candy sprinkles or colored sugar (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Beat eggs. Add sugar and Crisco. Beat 1 minute. Add milk and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and mix with liquid. Beat. Add enough flour to make a soft dough. Roll and cut with various shaped cookie cutters (We use Christmas trees, angels, bells, stars, Santas, etc.). Bake 350º until golden brown (@ 10 minutes).

Mix powdered sugar icing by combining powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk to desired consistency. You can double icing recipe and divide into bowls and add food coloring to create different colors. Frost cookies with icing and sprinkle with colored sugar or candy sprinkles before the icing sets.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is "Grammy" Vada Krauss' recipe. Grandmother Margaret Spence made this recipe with lard instead of Crisco. This is a soft sugar cookie. Since it makes a large batch, it's fun to get the whole family involved in the decorating. I usually cut and bake cookies while the family decorates.
