8 cups water
2 lbs cooked ham
1 tsp salt
2 medium carrots,diced
2 1/4 cups peas ( green split)
1 medium onion,diced
1/4 tsp pepper
2 stalks celery,diced

Directions:
Directions:
Heat water and peas to boiling.Boil for 2 minutes then remove from heat,cover and let stand for 1 hour.

Stir in onion,salt,pepper and whole ham.reheat to boiling point,then reduce heat,cover and simmer until peas are tender, about 1 hour.

Skim fat off top of liquid.remove ham,trim fat and bone and cup ham into small chunks.Stir in ham,carrots and celery and reheat again to boiling.Reduce heat and cook until vegetables are tender.

To thicken soup, remove heat and let stand.
