Pulla:
1 C. flour plus 5 C. flour
3/4 C. sugar
1 Tbsp. yeast
1 Tbsp. cardamom
2 C. very warm milk
1/2 C. melted butter
1/8 C. oil
2 eggs

Directions:
Directions:
Mix 1 C. flour with sugar, yeast, cardamom, milk, butter and oil. Beat until smooth. Add remaining flour and knead for 10 minutes. Rise 1 hour, punch down, rise 30 minutes. Turn onto well-floured board (dough will be sticky). Divide into 4 parts, then each into 3. Shape into 15" long ropes, braid 3 strips, pinch ends together and tuck under. Rise on lightly greased baking sheets for 20 minutes. Bake for 25 minutes at 350º, then brush tops with glaze of 4 Tbsp. sugar dissolved in 1/4 C. hot water. Cool, then glaze.

Almond Glaze:
Blend 2 C. powdered sugar, 1 tsp. almond extract and 2 Tbsp. water until smooth. Heat in microwave for 30 seconds, then drizzle on loaves.

Sprinkle with slivered almonds before glaze hardens.
