Crust: makes enough for 8 dumplings
2 c. flour
2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. plus 2 Tbsp. vegetable shortening
6 Tbsp. cold water

Sauce: makes enough for 8-12 dumplings
2 c. water
1 c. sugar
6 Tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

8-12 Macintosh apples, cored and peeled.

1 c. cinnamon and sugar mix

Directions:

Mix pie dough. Roll out on pastry cloth into a square 1/8 inch thick. Divide into 8 squares.

Place each apple on top of 1 dough square. Fill center, almost to the top, with cinnamon and sugar. Place a dab of butter on top. Wrap dough over each apple. Place wrapped apple in a rectangular baking dish. Depending on how large the apples are you may get 8-12 apples in pan.

Mix all ingredients for sauce in pan on stove. Bring to a boil and let simmer. Pour sauce around (not on) the apples.

Bake at 425 for 45 minutes or until the apples are done and the crust is golden.
