1 1/2 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt 2 eggs
1 c. molasses 1 c. Karo Syrup
1 c. cold water 1 tsp. ginger
*4 tsp. soda 7 c. flour

ICING:
1 pkg. powdered sugar 1 beaten egg white 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Mix in eggs, molasses, Karo, water, salt, and ginger. *Mix soda in the cup with 2 tbsp. boiling water. Pour into above mixture and add flour. Drop by tsp. full onto a lightly greased pan. (Sylvia: I like to roll them into balls in my hands, if they won't do that, add a little bit more flour.) (Amy: Grease after every use) Bake at 375° 7-8 minutes. Grandma & Sylvia bake these for 12-15 minutes. Makes 8-10 dozen.

Sylvia: This is a cookie that we have traditionally made at Christmas time since I was just little. We put different kinds of sprinkles on the frosting.
Amy: DO NOT DOUBLE THIS RECIPE! THIS MAKES A LOT.
