1/2 onion, minced
4 - 5 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 cup Makers Mark whisky
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 tablespoon salt
2 cups ketchup
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
1 Tablespoon molasses

Directions:
Directions:
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the onion, garlic, and whiskey. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until onion is translucent. Mix in the ground black pepper, salt, ketchup, tomato paste, vinegar, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, molasses and hot pepper sauce.
Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 20 minutes. Run sauce through a strainer if you prefer a smooth sauce.
Serve with The Doc's ribs.

The Doc does not approve of putting sauce on the ribs while they are cooking. If you must, do it at the very end (last 10 -15 minutes) of the cycle. This makes a nice sized batch...feel free to put in tupperware and save for other uses...like putting over ice cream (just kidding...again).
