41/2 cups sifted flour
1 lb. sweet butter
3/4 cup confectioner's sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. brandy (optional)
2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Sift flour twice. Cream butter until like satin. Sift sugar into creamed butter. Add 4 1/2 cups flour gradually. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour. Pinch off bits of dough form into round dough cookie size of half dollar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 325 20 to 25 minutes. They will turn a sandy color. Cool on a cookie sheet and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Optional: you could put a clove into the middle of every cookie- very good-before cooking.
