Batter:
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 cup milk
2 T. canola oil
Filling:
2 cans (15 oz.) water-packed tart cherries (not cherry pie filling), with liquid
1 cup sugar
2-3 drops red food coloring
2 drops almond extract.

Directions:
Directions:
Mix batter ingredients in a large bowl. Pour into greased and floured 9x13" pan. In the same bowl, mix together the filling ingredients. Spoon over batter. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes.

I have already used sweetened cherries (not pie filling) and then eliminated the sugar in the filling.
