3 1/4 Cups sifted cake flour
1/2 tsp Salt
4 tsps Baking Powder
1/2 Cup Butter or Margarine
2 Cups superfine granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups ice water
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
4 Egg Whites

Directions:
Directions:
1. Sift flour with salt and baking powder in bowl and set aside. Combine ice water and flavorings in bowl and set aside.
2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy in mixing bowl.
3. Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with the ice water, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
4. Beat until smooth.
5. In another bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy, gradually beat in the remaining 1/2 cup sugar, and beat until stiff and glossy.
6. Very carefully fold this meringue into the batter, folding just until no traces of white can be seen.
7. Turn batter into cake pan(s) that have been buttered and floured. Bake 350 oven for 25 - 30 minutes, or until cake tests done. Cool in pan(s) for 5 minutes before turning out onto racks.

In order to get superfine granulated sugar, put sugar in food processor for a couple of pulses.
