4 lb. pot roast
2 T. oil
1 bay leaf
2 T. brown sugar
1 c. water
1 onion, sliced
1 t. caraway seed
1/4 c. vinegar
1/4 t. marjoram
Salt and pepper to taste
3 tart apples, cored and quartered

Directions:
Directions:
Brown meat well in oil; salt and pepper. Place rack under meat and add other ingredients, except apples. Cover and cook over low heat on stove for 3 hours. Add apples during last 1/2 hour of cooking. May remove meat and apples to thicken gray with flour.
