Ingredients:
Ingredients:
16 tbsp. shortening = 1 cup
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
4 tsp. lemon, almond, or vanilla extract (individual vials can be bought at the bulk store)
3 cups flour
3 tsp. baking powder
Optional - sesame seeds or slivered almonds

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add next 4 ingredients by hand - do not use a mixer. Roll dough (snake like). Cut 2" cookies. Bake at 375º for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool.
Frost with a mixture of milk, powder sugar and vanilla. You can add food coloring if you like.

Optional - if you don't want to frost your cookies, roll your cookie dough in sesame seeds or slivered almonds prior to baking.

These cookies can be covered in sesame seeds and made into an rectangle-like shape. They can also be twisted into an S to make S cookies. You can also roll them in ground walnuts, or sprinkle Christmas candies on them.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Mamie told me she and Grandma were going to a lot of showers and were tired of the sweetness of Spritz cookies. Mamie's sister Mary was getting married, and Grandma and Mamie made up this recipe, and brought them to the shower. Apparently everyone loved them so much, they started bringing them to all the showers. They are a continued hit! Mamie still brings these over to Rose's when she comes over for Sunday dinner!
