"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Ingredients:
Pears:
4 ripe pears
2 cups sugar
¼ cup sugar
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Chocolate Sauce:
3 Tablespoons sugar
2 Tablespoons cocoa
1 Tablespoon cornstarch
2 Tablespoons water
1 Tablespoon light corn syrup
1 Tablespoon margarine
½ teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cut pears in half, core them, and cut off stems. The original recipe says to peel them although I never do. In a pot large enough to hold the pears, combine water, sugar, and lemon juice and bring to a boil. Spoon pears into liquid, reduce heat, and simmer, covered for five minutes. Pears should be tender, not mushy. Drain pears and chill.

In a small sauce pan combine sugar, cocoa, and corn starch. Mix in water and corn syrup and blend well. Cook over medium heat until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat and stir for about a minute. Add margarine or butter and vanilla and stir until sauce is well blended. Spoon warm sauce over chilled pears and serve. The sauce is also delicious on other fruits and desserts.
