3 tablespoons cocoa
1 oz red food coloring
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda
1 tablespoon vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix cocoa and red food coloring making a paste and set aside. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Add vanilla and food coloring/cocoa paste. Add salt, flour, and buttermilk. Mix well. Dissolve soda in vinegar. Fold into batter and bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
