1/4 cup spry
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 cup dates
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup raisins
1 1/2 cup nuts
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp soda
1 1/2 cup mixed fruit (optional)
1 tsp baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Soak fruit with enough hot water to cover ( raisins, dates, & mixed fruit) not the nuts. Let it stand, and just before adding to mixture put in the baking soda. Mix spry, sugar & eggs. Add flour then fruit and vanilla. Bake at 350º for about 1 hour.
