1 1/2 stick margarine, softened
1 2/3 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. all-purpose flour
2/3 c. cocoa
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/3 c. water
1/2 c. finely crushed hard peppermint (optional)

Frosting:
6 tbsp. margarine, softened
2 2/3 c. confectiners' sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine margarine, sugar, eggs, and vanilla in large mixing bowl. Beat for 3 minutes on HIGH speed of mixer. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder. Add alternately with water to butter mixture; beatng until well blended. Add candy if desired. Pour batter into greased cake pans and bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. Cool cakes for 10 minutes and then turn cakes onto wire racks to finish cooling.

Frosting:
Beat margarine in medium bowl; add confectioners' sugar and cocoa alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla.

Note: Add additional confectioners' sugar if needed to make frosting thick enough to spread and stay on the cake.
