Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Grandma Fern’s Uncle Gust was a very smart man. He invented things, like the basalt building block. He was Grandma Nana’s brother, and he and his wife Alice and their six sons lived in Sacramento. He was interested in providing affordable housing for young families. When he was young, he lost much of his eyesight in a dynamite blast. He was something of a free spirit and, in his later years, wore ancient Inca beads from Peru around his neck. I always thought he did it to shock his conservative relatives in Turlock. This is his recipe—not as exquisite as Auntie Ann’s James Beard dish, but very good nonetheless.
