Directions:
Place saurkraut into 6-quart pot with cover. Fry bacon until crisp. Crumble and add to the sauerkraut. Saute 1/2 of the cabbage and chopped onion in the bacon drippings (do not drain the grease from the pan) for 4-5 minutes or until wilted. Add cabbage-onion mixture to the sauerkraut with the remaining cabbage, apple and water. Cover, simmer 2-3 hours (Joyce prefers to simmer 3-4 hours or longer), stirring occasionally. When kapusta is almost done add the brown sugar and simmer for another 1/2 hour.
