Sift together:
2 cups flour
4 tsp baking powder
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
Cut in 1/2 cup shortening. Mix like pie crust until resembles coarse crumbs. Add 2/3 cup milk all at once.

Directions:
Stir dough until it follows around the bowl. Dough should be soft and easy to handle. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently 8-10 times. Pat dough to 1/2" thick, cut out biscuits. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400.
