Layered Cranberry-Orange Cookies Recipe

1 cup sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1 egg
2 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
2.3 cup dried cranberries, chopped
1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
2 tsp. grated orange peel
red food coloring

1. Heat oven to 350
2. Cream first 3 ingredients together with mixer.
3. Add next 4 ingredients (thru baking powder) until mixed.
4. Separate 1/3 dough out and add orange peel. Add cranberries, nuts, and food coloring to remaining 2/3 of dough.
5. Line a loaf pan with plastic wrap. Layer 1/2 of the cranberry mixture in the pan, smoothing out with a spatula, then add the orange mixture again smoothing out, and then finish with the remaining cranberry mixture.
6. Chill 4 hours.
7. Slice widthwise into 1/4" slices. Cut each slice into 3 cookies.
8. Bake for 8-10 minutes

Mom just mixes everything together and makes drop cookies from this recipe. They taste the same so its great if you are in a rush, but I think it's worth the extra time to layer them. They look so pretty!
